No class 10/5 & 11/23
Explore traditional and modern techniques as well as a wide variety of materials in this popular class. We will cover design, fabrication, installation, and some art history in our study of this amazing art form. Decorative, architectural, and fine art pieces can all be achieved. Beginners with self-driven projects are welcome. Learn how to select the proper materials for mosaic installations, both interior and exterior, how to position mosaic pieces (tessera) in traditional patterns (andamento), and become comfortable with both ancient and contemporary styles. You will be encouraged to develop your own personal style. You will be exposed to mosaics in a historic context and will begin to explore the ways that mosaic has served both as a decorative and a fine art in different periods of history while acquiring a working knowledge of the tools used to make mosaics.
